Since 22nd May, the RATP, the Parisian public transport company, have been trialling new interactive bus stations, over 5 months. The first station was installed in front of the ‘Gare de Lyon’.

This project introduces a new vision in urban transport, worthy of the 21st Century.

An all Italian implementation of these new “intelligent” stops for the city: Metalco has in fact fine-tuned the project conceived by architect Marc Aurel.
The Italian company has many years’ experience in the field of street furniture: known in over 4,000 cities across 32 countries for its innovation, design and product quality which today make up the broadest range in the street furniture, garden furniture, modular metal fencing and urban lighting sectors.

Metalco’s primary objective is to design and produce new generations of products which enhance the best features of traditional materials such as steel, wood and stone together with industrial concepts which reach the highest quality levels and a strictly “Made in Italy” production.

These are the principles at the foundation of this new project.

The new generation stations opened in Paris, also accessible to users with disabilities (including visual and auditory), are made of steel shelters that cover a 85m² area, and provide support services to urban transport. The shelters are equipped with comfortable waiting rooms and a central wall with special decorative glass heated to a low temperature.
The lighting inside the structure varies throughout the course of the day. There is also a station for electric bikes with self-service recharge, a ticket office, two backlit touchscreen information posts for signage, a library (take a book, leave a book), a cafeteria and a make-up area.
There are also power sockets for charging small personal devices.
Sound diffusion is through a special crystal vibration system around the waiting area; a tone alerts users when the bus is approaching.
The real time information screens and interactive displays that allow you to find nearby transport points or places of interest, all make up part of the digital equipment that is fitted to the shelter.
