LAGRANJA

Lagranja was created in Barcelona in 2002 by Gabriele Schiavon and Gerard Sanmartì. From the desire to develop ideas, propose visions and solutions to teaching in a creative capacity ranging through design, architecture, fittings.

In Lagranja, theory follows practice, indulging in instinct as much as reason. The defining characteristic is attitude and energy that emanates from every design: optimism, vitality and a focus on people’s needs.  Dedicated to design that is never self-referencing or self-gratifying, instead the objective is to break down conceptual barriers: eclectic and versatile, designing in ways that span different genres and operational environments.

This approach has led Lagranja to compete and collaborate with some of the most important design brands, with international achievements, in the design of corporate space (retail) and museum and exhibition fittings.

Examples of this include a bike rack produced by Santa & Cole which has won many awards including the Red Hot Award in 2008, the Uto lamp for Foscarini, the Ring seat for Gebrüder Thonet Vienna, “Espai Gaudí: The museum about life and works” museum dedicated to the life and work of the architect, located on the top floor of the famous Pedrera.

In 2009 Lagranja was awarded the prestigious Premi Ciutat de Barcellona, which bears witness to the importance of the practice within the cultural fabric of the Spanish city.
